:: MEET: 10:30 AM, Sunday, 10/23/22The far northern/Bear Mtn Section of 7 Lakes Drive near the P.I.P & 1777 Trail.  As this lot is smaller and more obscure than most, following directions closely will be important. (Detailed directions below). If it’s too full, we’ll leave some cars there, and do a shuttle hike. Please be prepared to share rides.
 
:: HIKING: Approx. 5.5 miles at comfortable pace (3.75 mi. to Fest, 1.5 mi. out, + meandering). Gradual climbs (no killers), rocky trails, easy woods roads. Not for beginners, but suitable for skiers in sound condition. Breaks for snacks, photos. Easier outs may be available. Off trail by 3:30 pm..—depending on picture-taking time 🙂
:: LOCAL CONDITIONS: Mostly Sunny, High 66° F. Good, clear leaf-peeping weather!
:: BRING/WEAR: MIN. 1.5 LITERS water! (Plus a spare in the car.)  Lite Lunch/ snacks before festival food. Hiking boots/sturdy shoes required (“sneakers” not allowed). Hiking stick. Seasonal layered thermal clothing, wind shell for breezy viewpoints, hat. Gloves? Camera, Binocs, Personal toiletries, Sunny disposition.

The dates of that tribal celebration of extreme outdoor films, the Banff Mountain Film Festival, have been announced: Feb. 24 and 25, 2023, at the Lafayette Theater, Suffern, NY. Watch for more details ahead!

DIRECTIONS TO PKG. LOT at 7 LAKES DR., BEAR MTN. SECTION (Near PIP, 1777 Trail):
 
EASIEST: Palisades Int. Pkwy NORTH to EXIT 19 (7 Lakes Dr. East to Bear Mtn.) (Attention through PIP EXITS 17 & 18. Watch signage).
Turn off EXIT 19 and Continue a brief 1/2 mile to small, signed “4WD” road on RIGHT. Continue to lot at end.

ALTERNATE: Rte. 17 NORTHThru Sloatsburg, to 7 Lakes Drive.
Stay on 7 Lks. Dr. about 14 miles to the FOURTH TRAFFIC CIRCLE (LONG MTN. CIRCLE). WATCH SIGNAGE CAREFULLY.
Go HALFWAY around circle and Exit at sign for Route 6 East/ 7 Lakes Dr. ATTENTION! In 1/4 mile VERY CAREFULLY Merge with PIP and almost immediately ease over to the right to get off at EXIT 19, 7 Lks. Dr.
Continue a brief 1/2 mile to small, signed  “4WD” road on RIGHT. Continue to lot at end.
